This greedy miser is the wealthiest man in his province yet he forces his wife and daughter Eugenie (Terry) to submit to the regime of mean poverty. Eugenie falls in love with a wealthy young dandy (Valentino) from Paris much to the displeasure of Grandet who does what he can to stop their marriage.
